A record breaking season for chub started for Vauxhall Angling Club on the Radwell and Sharnbrook sections with a fish of 7 lbs 8 oz’s caught by David Sansom. Just a few weeks after Gary Hickling took a fish of 7 lbs 10 oz’s. Now Gary has now raised the bar even higher with a fish of 8 lbs 8 oz’s.
There was a time not that far in the past when a 4 lb chub would have been considered a good fish. 3 years ago fish of 5 lb and 6 lb started to appear in numbers and this year we have had many over the 7 lb mark.
Chub Study Group Secretary, Iain Nairn, is quoted as saying “The fish in the Great Ouse seem to be growing bigger every season thanks to angler’s baits and the huge population of crayfish making them fatter. I wouldn’t be surprised if it produced a new record in the coming seasons”. Neither would we!
